Very rarely do I read a magazine from cover to cover. I tend to read only the articles that appeal to me, usually about 25% of the total. Darkroom User (DU) is a different story. I read every article AND every ad. I find that each article teaches me something that I can apply to my own work. Several have given me such insight into something new that I cannot wait to get into my darkroom and give it a try.
The quality of writing is top notch, with a minimum of technical jargon. For those of us in the United States, there is a bit of a problem (very minor) in understanding some of the English colloqualisms, but I find these to be very charming, especially in the ads; they have a very friendly, homey feel.
The finished quality of the magazine is first rate. It is printed on a glossy, heavy stock that gives DU a very high quality feel. The reproduction of photographs is outstanding; when 2 pictures are shown of the same scene, and one is printed on grade 2 paper and the other on grade 3, one can actually SEE the difference between the two images. In most magazines, they would look identicle.
If I had to give a score from 1 to 10, Darkroom User would get an 11. I cannot wait for my next issue to arrive.
